The main focus of The-Asterismos is to celebrate and provide exposure for your excellent literature deviations. Each Sunday, I will be taking the time to feature a number of outstanding pieces submitted to the group during the past week. I encourage you to browse through the work below! Each deviant featured is very worthy of your support.

A stranger rose up
out of my single bed
this morning.
I watched her,
pale skinned and
gaping mouth,
yawning hungrily
for my air.
I looked at her
in the mirror,
I studied her skin,
looking for some seam
at which to pull her away.
I left marks from
where I pinched her,
waiting for her
to cry out and
return my body to me.
She did not.
duetThe earth is not perfect in its circumference,
it wobbles and shudders as it sings,
with pitched layers of atmospheric frequencies
and deep molten throbs.
Each person makes a noise that drowns out the
sound against a tsunami's thunder.
Do they ever know the song before it's too late,
or go mute long enough to know the words.
When you and I are together, we quietly hum in
hopes of hearing it in tune, of being a duet in sync.
When we can't, we touch; the friction of bodies
become tuning forks vibrating with the tides,
of bird and beast migrating by the silvery tines of
stars, to the music of our only home.

The World's Greatest ActorThe World’s Greatest Actor, now a father, prepared lunch for his three children. Humming to himself happily, he slathered pieces of bread with peanut butter and jelly. He put them each into individual plastic containers, then the containers into brightly coloured cloth bags along with plums and juice boxes. He wanted to make sure they ate healthy but enjoyed what they ate. He was rewarded with their smiles when his three children came running in. An elder girl in grade two, followed by a twin boy and girl who were in kindergarten, greeted him. He said good morning and picked them all up in a bear hug, kissing them each on the forehead. They laughed  and ran to eat their breakfasts, cereal which he had poured for them. When they were done, he followed them up the stairs to make sure each one of them brushed their teeth, washed their hands, and picked up their school bags. He watched them shove their carefully packed lunches into their bags and run out the front door. He stood with :thumb394513713:

let men spend for liquor.
the stage won't sizzle
unless you provoke
a drunkard's primal urge
that should pay
your rent
and restock
the refrigerator
you defrosted.

we called her memashe had salt skin,
wrinkles that fell off her in waves
and seven greasy finger links with
diamonds at their tips.
tied to a wheelchair with
black licorice chains,
her stubby feet locked into
children’s sized shoes and gushing
with crimson at the souls.
she had ants tucked into the pockets
of her lungs,
her eye sockets bled with the
spirit of poetry and prose.
we found her sleeping,
caressed by a thick layer of
glistening sweat
and enjoying a love affair
with the grim reaper.
